 EMSolution modules

EMSolution is a modern and powerful program for electromagnetic analysis. Its capabilities include 3D static, AC and transient nonlinear electromagnetic analyses, coupled with complex circuitry and motion. Fast and reliable, based on state-of the art algorithms, EMSolution is ideal for electrical machines and apparatus design and optimization. In the following, we present the modules of EMSolution.

Static module

Static module performs magnetostatic field analysis. Does not include AC or transient analysis. Nonlinear and anisotropic magnetic materials are treated. Using multiple steps, it can analyze the same geometry under different conditions. Outputted values are magnetic field distribution, electromagnetic force and coil inductance etc.

AC module

The effect of the eddy current is included. Calculate magnetic field distribution, eddy current distribution and Joule losses under AC excitation. Electromagnetic force and coils impedances are computed.

Transient module

Includes nonlinear analysis and anisotropic magnetic materials. Calculate magnetic field distribution, eddy current distribution and Joule losses. Evaluate force and nodal force distribution. The power sources are excited in current or voltage.

Motion module

Three types of motion are included:

  • Coil motion; only coil field sources are moving. No re-meshing necessary.
  • Sliding motion; in the case of translation or rotational motion of mobile parts of electrical machines, when mesh deformation is not required.
  • Mesh deformation (see deform module)

Deform module

This module handles the types of motion not treated by Motion module, i.e. motions including mesh deformation. Mesh deformation is handled automatically by EMSolution solver at each deformation step. Analysis of various kind of actuators becomes possible.

Dynamic module

Coupling of electromagnetic analysis with motion equation. The electromagnetic force is evaluated and included in the motion equation. It is possible to include external force depending on position and speed such as gravity, spring tension and frictional force. 1 DoF for mesh deformation is supported. Mesh deformation and sliding motion can work together with this module.

Network module

Coupling with external circuitry is made using Network module. It is also possible to handle linear resistance and inductance using CIRCUIT definitions in the basic version of EMSolution but this module includes condenser, nonlinear resistances and inductances and additionally pre-defined nonlinear elements as diode.

Steady current module

For a steady state analysis (in the case of a rotational or translation motion) to be reached from a transient analysis, it will take many analysis steps. This module calculates directly the stationary state, thus allowing important calculation time reduction (in only one step).

Anisotropy 2D module

This module solve 2D magnetic anisotropy problems, if measurements data (the 2D table data of magnetic flux density function of flux strength and angle) are available.

EMSolution versions

The functional modules presented above are integrated for practical use in several available version of our product. See the table bellow for description of the Static, AC, Transient, Motion, Basic and Professional versions of EMSolution.
